248 Great Directors: Louis Feuillade

What Got This Director Here?
: Les Vampires.

My Favorite Past Experience Was…: Les Vampires.

What Did I Watch: Judex.

Where Does He Fit: I frankly found Judex to be a fairly lacking little adventure, with a little bit of weirdness that I’m sure Franju exploits to much better effect in the remake he did that compresses the minimal action in this one. 300 minutes long and you totally feel every minute of it, with an extra-long prologue that was not necessary at all. It has some talent poured into it and the characters are decent enough, but ultimately this reminds me of Jean-Pierre Leaud’s attempts in Irma Vep of trying to remake Les Vampires and coming up with Venom and Eternity instead.

Most Valuable Asset: Silly and silent, it’s like watching a comic book.
Most Excited For: Fantomas.
Did They Deserve a Spot?: Ehhh. This didn’t do much for me since it was so long, so he’s on the fence.

Coming Up Next: Political thrillman John Frankenheimer.
