What Got This Director Here?: Invasion/Dirty Harry.
My Favorite Past Experience Was…: The Beguiled.
What Did I Watch: Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Where Does He Fit: Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ force as an allegory may have been vehemently denied by the director in all respects, but what he could never deny was how machine like it was. The movie is an hour and twenty minutes of nonstop plot, moving propulsively through various twists and turns that really sum up the sensation of life in a world where the blacklist existed and Joseph McCarthy was running wild. Can you really recognize another human? No, not really. While the frame narrative is not without its small moments, however, I think I’d be curious to see how the Kaufman version ends, as the potentially sad ending seems like a real benefit.
Most Valuable Asset: The world is quick and angry.
Most Excited For: Dirty Harry.
Did They Deserve a Spot?: Why not?
Coming Up Next: Two time Palme winner Shohei Imamura.
